Ice Creams & The Queen
Edinburgh, Scotland

In June 2011, while on a trip to Edinburgh, I found myself outside The Scottish National Gallery. Not far from the gallery stands the Palace of Holyroodhouse, one of the many homes of the UK Monarchy, where Queen Elizabeth made her annual summer visit.
What caught my eye wasn't the grandeur of the palace or the bustling streets, but a banner of Queen Elizabeth with her eyes closed, advertising an art exhibit within the gallery. The serene image of the Queen contrasted sharply with the lively surroundings. And then, perfectly timed, an ice cream truck parked nearby, adding a touch of whimsy to the scene.
The juxtaposition of the regal banner and the everyday delight of the ice cream truck created a balanced and intriguing image. It's a photograph that speaks to the blend of tradition and modernity, of reverence and everyday life, that makes places like Edinburgh so enchanting.
